In the past, a different sexual preference was considered a source of shame, so those in the LGBTQ community could only show their love privately. Toilets became an early meeting place for romantic and sexual encounters. Leslie Cheung was an LGBTQ icon, and his appeal led to a greater understanding of LGBTQ people. As a result, LGBTQ couples now feel like they can bring their relationships into public places, and they have bravely demonstrated for their right to love as they choose. Even though legal marriages are not available to these couples right now, I believe we can expect legalization in the near future.
