Yuenjie Maru 丸仔 Fragments of Silence 沈默碎片
A set of three drawings on paper
2020@ Yuenjie Maru
For this exhibition, I selected three pieces that I recently painted in Sham Shui Po: two of them are elders from the neighborhood who are reading newspapers in the temporary study room on the top floor of the Pei Ho Street Urban Affairs Building. Because of the epidemic, the tables are separated by plastic dividers. The third painting is of the minibus station he saw from the window of a restaurant on Guilin Street. Outside the window are two female workers waiting to receive the delivery of goods. The three paintings are displayed in an acrylic sheet with hidden and unknown stories. In this way, painting is a way of observation, and viewing painting is also a way of observation.
